It has been a hot second. again. But, here I am back again!!
I have been reading Rosemary Card’s Model Mormon (you can buy it HERE) and I came across this quote from Brene Brown. (too good not to share!!)
“Belonging is being somewhere where you want to be, and they want you. Fitting in is being somewhere you want to be, but they don’t care one way or another.
Belonging is being accepted for you. Fitting in is being accepted for being like everyone else.
If I get to be me, I belong. If I have to be like you, I fit in.”
MIC DROP (<exactly what Rosie said after this quote, & it is too perfect.)
I have been obsessed with this topic (and that quote) over the last week. It speaks to my soul. It is good.
In high school, I was friends with most of the “popular” kids, but I never felt like I “fit in”. Spoiler alert: I didn’t. AND THAT’S 100% OK.
Now, I have friends that I BELONG with. Now, I have a family I BELONG in (both my own little family and both sides of extended families).
You shouldn’t have to change to be with people you like. Consider this your permission to allow yourself to let go of the people who DON’T let you be yourself. You don’t have to be mean or bratty about this, you can do it classy and nice, but once you do it, you will be happier.
Ultimately, we have a Heavenly Family where we fully, completely, and utterly belong no matter what.
Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother accepts us as we are.
Jesus Christ accepts us for who we are.
Does this mean that they don’t expect certain things from us? NO.
They expect us to live the best life as we can. They expect us to listen to Them. They expect us to TRY. They expect us to help each other feel loved and work together to get home.
Try your best. Be happy. & allow other’s to be their true selves.
